 Fixing your goal
Everyone knows that winning requires fixing appropriate goals - both short and long term. The MBA is a career development programme. An MBA that does not start by helping you understand your career goals is, simply stated, putting the cart before the horse.
The programme kicks off right away with a highly interactive and individualized career development process - Career POWER! After one week, you’ll have laid the groundwork for your potential career goals and have identified the key competencies you’ll need to master in order to achieve your goal.

Entering the Career POWER! Process
The Career POWER! process accompanies you throughout the programme, it helps you focus in on advancing step by step - and not in one swoop at the end of the programme.
The Career POWER! Process involves 3 workshops spread over the year-long MBA (understanding yourself, understanding specific jobs, understanding job search and interviewing). Each session
requires in-depth preparation and investigation on your part.
Expert career coaches facilitate each session as well as the “meet the actors” meeting that follows each workshop - where you can confront you analysis with the key actors in the job market.
In addition, on-line services, and personalised assistance is available throughout the year.
Investing personally to the process
We’ve learned that effective career development requires that participants must be active investors in career activities or the services rendered will have little if any value.
Effective career services are not generic offerings...you must be intimately involved in their construction and only you can determine the efficiency of the process. If the person concerned is not actively involved (YOU), it just won’t work.
Because of this, Career POWER! is a required, for credit, component of the EM LYON International MBA programme.
All participants must actively participate in the workshops, complete the required assignments and complete a final career strategy - a personal development plan that applies the tools of strategic management and entrepreneurial leadership to ...you!
Career Services
The Career Services office provides special services to participants from all programmes. Special assistance is provided to MBA participants in the form of
- Career POWER!
- personalised coaching
- job search services
- organisation of corporate roundtables and meetings with alumni
In winter the School sponsors a recruiting day when over 70 companies are present on campus. Managers present various jobs and you have the chance to make “contact” with companies.
The School also sponsors other career activities like the “Amphis Opportunités” and the “Tables Rondes sur les Métiers”. Note that these activities are principally in French.
In addition to the above services, the MBA programme provides numerous servicesto participants to prepare them for the job market including:
- Corporate roundtables
- Recruiter visits
- The Career POWER! project: aimed at preparing each participant for the labour market.
- The Entrepreneurial Leadership Project
- Creation and distribution of the CV book by the Career Group
- On-line job and internship offers (in partnership with the alumni association and em-lyon.net)
